Every day, everywhere, mighty vehicles are on the move—and so are the firms that build them. Consider the case of one of America's top manufacturers of heavy-duty vehicles—a firm with plenty of heavy-duty security concerns. Check Point® Integrity helps keep this manufacturer safely on course. customer must provide proof of purchase from Secure Tec.
The company manufactures a full range of heavy-duty commercial vehicles under a variety of well-known trademarks. With annual revenue in the billions of dollars, and a network of dealers and service facilities that blankets North America, it's a company that's constantly in motion.
As such, the company's network security concerns are complex and must be balanced against the need to provide safe and seamless connectivity for authorized users accessing its network remotely. As a manager explained, "we needed to provide endpoint PC protection in conjunction with our VPN connectivity, especially for computers outside the physical network. We were searching for a security solution that could be used in a variety of unknown configurations to protect our core network and minimize the vulnerabilities and risks that unsecured Internet connections present."
The company selected Check Point® Integrity to do the job. "We chose Integrity primarily because it has become the de facto standard in the industry," the manager says. "We already had a Cisco VPN in place and the fact that Cisco and ZoneAlarmŽ have worked closely on compatibility between their products also made this solution an attractive one."
The firm's primary concern was the protection of its confidential information. "It is imperative we safeguard electronic interoffice correspondence relating to strategic initiatives; financial data; and intellectual property such as design and engineering specifications, among other things," the manager says. "The central management tools in Integrity provide us with the flexibility to create and enforce policies that are secure enough for our needs yet do not greatly restrict the functionality of home or vendor networks. As a result, we now have the peace of mind that our confidential data remains confidential."
Integrity, combined with Cisco's VPN Client Utility, is up and running on 1,000 computers connecting to the company's corporate network—a far-flung web that spans the vast American continent, just like the vehicles they build. (Read the full story as PDF)
